Job Description
The Coding Specialist codes diagnoses, operations and treatments accurately using approved coding conventions for hospital services. This position reviews patient records and daily reports to accurately assign appropriate ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT and HCPCS codes and determines DRG or other groupers as determined by payers timely and within established productivity benchmarks.
Coding Specialists employed by Island Hospital have the opportunity to participate in a work-at-home job assignment and innovative scheduling to include time spent working at home and/or office-based.
Current status with the American Health Information Association as a Registered Health Information Tech (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or AAPC Certified Coder.
Minimum two (2) years multi-specialty physician or hospital coding experience is preferred with previous ER coding experience preferred.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
